Ever been frustrated after ordering a book or discount product online or through a catalogue? It’s so easy to buy yet so difficult to receive! Unless you live in a New York high-rise with a full time doorman at your every beckoned whim it seems like you’re required to wait at your home for 12 hour shifts, hoping and praying that you’ll be available to meet the mail delivery person when they arrive to sign off on your order. You dread receiving the small yellow, orange or beige notice stuck to your door or in your apartment mail box stating that the package carrier will make their next attempt after the upcoming weekend or holiday has passed. Yet, you’re also not willing to leave your newly purchased treasure on your doorstep to be damaged by the elements or even stolen.
The Internet has revolutionized the way human beings communicate across the globe yet we Americans are still receiving mail the same way we did in the 1970’s. Parcels and packages travel through a network of stops and stations on our way to us, passing through major hubs in Atlanta, Newark, Miami or Indianapolis depending on the carrier, getting battered and beaten up on their way. Those employed by UPS, FedEx, USPS and other mail carriers work long hours and deal with irate customers all in the name of doing their jobs well yet the demand for quick service makes the whole process a giant tangled web.
Enter into play the IdentiCert easyQube kiosk, the brainchild of three Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) graduates from the Sloan School of Management. These three students have developed a modular, electronic storage box system that can be installed in any apartment complex, modeled after technology that has been used in advanced nations like the Netherlands for years. Referred to as easyQube kiosks, these storage devices are shared temporarily by all residents and opened with an electronic swipe card. Recipients are notified via email when their package has arrived at an easyQube kiosk near them. Mail recipients merely rent a few hours or minutes of time in which to retrieve their parcel from a convenient location then leave the space available for the next person who comes along!
This service most benefits urban apartment and condo dwellers that make up about a fifth of the American population. The easyQube system remains useful for everyone however in its convenience and ability to revolutionize the way consumer goods are shipped throughout the nation. Perhaps we will now be able to plan the delivery of our packages around our schedules and not vice versa. | |
