Obtaining Post Office Boxes just got easier

Submittted by ANN MITCHELL, U.S. Postal Service

POSTED: August 10, 2010

"Obtaining Post Office Boxes just got easier"

The U.S. Postal Service has incorporated improvements in its Post Office Boxes website to make it more user friendly in obtaining a Post Office box. The changes are based on a USPS usability study and include:

A note on the search page helps users find a Post Office Box closest to the address entered, or by ZIP Code, for their delivery Post Office.

Acceptable forms of identification are more clearly defined so customers know what to bring with them to the Post Office.

E-mail confirmations include language stating customers can visit their local Post Office to begin the verification process if they are moving to another city or state.

Post Office Boxes Online has experienced a 50 percent increase in annual revenue compared to the preceding year. Individuals wishing to obtain a Post Office box should go to www.usps.com.

For more information about purchasing stamps, stamps by mail, postal regulations, a free subscription to USA Philatelic magazine, Post Office events, the location of the nearest postal store or contract unit, or for answers to your specific Postal Service questions, contact USPS at 1-800-275-8777 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              1-800-275-8777      end_of_the_skype_highlighting, or visit www.usps.com. Mr. Zip's Tip: USPS saw a 248% increase in online Post Office Box renewals in Fiscal Year 2009.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world's mail.
