USPS to offer incentives to boost saturation, high-density mail

Christopher Hosford

Washington, D.C.—The U.S. Postal Service continues to come up with incentive programs to increase commercial mailings. Its latest will offer postage rebates to companies that increase their saturation and high-density mailing volume next year.

The program, to run throughout 2011, will rebate 22% of regular saturation-mail postage, and 12% of regular high-density mail postage, on all mail pieces that exceed 2010 volume by 5%.

Saturation-mail addresses 90% of residential addresses within a carrier route, or 75% of both residences and businesses. High-density mailings target at least 125 addresses in a carrier route. Both methods already offer savings over first-class and standard mail rates.

The Postal Service currently is the midst of its second “Summer Sale,” running through Sept. 30 and providing a 30% rebate on boosted standard-mail letters and flats volume. Last year’s inaugural summer program boosted standard-mail volume, used most often in direct mail campaigns, by 1 billion pieces, according to USPS.
