Change to UPS Undeliverable Ground Packages Procedure
Effective April 27, 2009, UPS will implement a new operational procedure for undeliverable ground packages. UPS will return-to-shipper Ground packages not requiring signature services after the third delivery attempt. All Air, International and Ground Service packages with Delivery Confirmation “Signature Required” and “Adult Signature Required” options will continue to be post carded and held for Will Call for five days after the third delivery attempt.
The consignee can make alternative delivery arrangements prior to 7 p.m. on the day of the final delivery attempt. By visiting UPS.com, consignees can request that the package be held in the building for pick-up or have the package delivered to another address. Shippers can prevent packages from being returned by using Signature Required or Adult Signature Required delivery confirmation options when shipping ground packages or shipping via UPS air services. Again, this change will apply only to ground packages without UPS signature options. All other packages will continue to be held in the UPS operating center for 5 days after the 3rd delivery attempt.
Note: The delivery return fee is waived for participants in the UPS Authorized Shipping Outlet program
